COPFS is a community organisation that provides guidance, emotional and practical support to adults and children living in one parent families. We also provide court support, personal support, information and referral and advocacy. Since 1979 sole parent families have continued to change in the way that they are structured. In those early days, most sole parent families were headed by a female. Today its a totally different look. Many of our clients are fathers who are looking at ways of improving their time spent with their children. our families might have their children full time, part time or are in the process of attempting to gain contact with their children. Staff are often in contact with Centrelink, ACT Housing, Care & Protection, Family Lawyers, to name a few. Staff are also available for home visits or office drop-in, if clients are feeling a bit low or just need to chat to us over coffee.

We run a weekly Play Group where we provide music and play and an excursion from time to time. Anyone is welcome to join this playgroup with children between 0 and 5 years old. We also provide the KIDS Club Program for primary school aged children of separated, divorced or repartnered parents. This Program looks at the feelings and coping strategies of the child during this difficult transition period. It is a 6 week course run during the term and after school.

We also provide a newsletter every three months to anyone who is registered on our database which outlines the upcoming events and provides up to date information on changes within the legal system and general information and some light hearted reading.

In the office we have a small library of books that are available for borrowing. We have an area that clients can sit and read in or watch a DVD or just hang out and have a coffee and chat.
